Severe Obesity Solutions: RY Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass surgery has been performed for decades and has a long history of successful results. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) surgery remains our most popular weight loss procedure at the Phoenix Bariatric Center for the effective treatment of severe obesity. In addition to significant weight loss, other advantages of this bariatric procedure can include a reduced appetite as well as the reduction or elimination of pre-existing health conditions related to morbid obesity, including high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, and heart disease.
During Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery, the size of the stomach is reduced, limiting the amount of food intake while still giving you that “full” feeling. To aid in swift weight loss, this surgery also allows food to bypass portions of the stomach and small intestines, minimizing the number of calories absorbed by the body during digestion. Since I use a laparoscopic technique to perform RYGB, the incisions are smaller than traditional gastric bypass surgery and the procedure is considered to be minimally invasive. This technique also decreases some of the risks associated with traditional RYGB surgery, and often yields a more comfortable and quicker recovery.
